Hi- I’m Katie!
Yay! You’re here! Hey there. My name is Katie Szerkins. In my therapy office I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) passionate about supporting child and all those that love them. I prioritize children in foster care as they hold a special place in my heart (Keep reading to learn why!). I graduated with my master’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Holding certifications in Pediatric Mental Health and Adoption Competency (TAC). I am trained in Theraplay Level 1, Brainspotting phases 1 & 2, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), DC: 0-5, and child and adolescent grief and loss. I am also on the road to becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT)! I specialize in clients age 3 and up. Treating a vast array of diagnoses including trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, attachment difficulties, anger, and family transitions. Providing empathic, fun, and genuine care to my clients is of utmost importance to me.
Outside of my practice I can be found in local coffee shops with a warm drink in hand (and likely a plated scone). I find peace within chaos through nature. Hiking state or local parks. I am married to an amazing and supportive man who vigorously supports and encourages me to follow my heart. I am “legally” mom to six children (four of whom I am their first mom and two that I have been blessed to be called their second mom) and mom to many more children through foster care. I have experience working in child protection, the outpatient clinical setting, and therapeutically in schools. I am a state “Foster Parent Champion” and have been nominated for the Governor’s Outstanding Adoptive Parent Award.
